Rachel D. Merlin is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MT 2924) and a Certified Hypnotherapist working in private practice. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University where she maintains a 4.0 GPA.
Rachel focuses on relational issues and her specialty is helping clients overcome problems that arise in their relationships with family members, colleagues, friends, and current or former romantic partners. She is available to meet with clients in her office, located in Coral Gables, as well as remotely using video or telephone sessions for clients who are unable to attend sessions in-person.
Rachel works in collaboration with her clients to identify goals and to facilitate growth through thought-provoking questions and compassionate dialogue. She has a caring yet direct style and believes that when her clients complete tasks between sessions, changes can be made more quickly. She utilizes a solution-focused approach, which highlights and builds upon her clients’ strengths, and she also incorporates a narrative lens, which values the way in which people tell their stories. Rachel understands that sometimes couples make the difficult decision to end their marriage and pursue divorce, and for that reason, she is trained as a Facilitator in the Collaborative Process. The Collaborative Process is an alternative dispute resolution method that treats divorce as a legal, financial, and emotional experience. In that process, a team of professionals including two attorneys and generally a mental health professional and a financial professional, is assembled to assist the couple to privately navigate their way through the divorce process without involving the court system. As a certified hypnotherapist, Rachel works with clients using mindfulness and relaxation techniques to access the subconscious and make changes on a deeper level. This can be especially helpful for people who have tried different therapeutic approaches but have not achieved the changes they are hoping for, or for people who want to incorporate mindfulness techniques in their therapeutic experience.
